Women's skin ages faster than men's

Men and women are genetically 99 percent the same. Despite of this similarity they are quite different in their development, with women maturing much faster than men

Measuring the levels of collagen and elastin, researches have found that women lose collagen faster than men. Collagens are a set of proteins in the dermis, the connective tissue layer of the skin, and are in charge for the strength of skin. The human body makes a lot of collagen in youth but production declines with aging and the tissue ages.

Because degeneration of collagen and elastin are related to skin aging, results that women's skin ages faster than men's causing early appearance of wrinkles and the progressive loss of skin smoothness.

The big problem is the dermatologists who want to evaluate a patient's collagen network in the dermis have to remove a sample of tissue and investigate it under a microscope. Recently a new laser-based technique to measure damage from sun exposure and aging has been settled. Authors claim this new non-invasive method might one day help in testing anti-aging cosmetic products as well as in the investigating of skin diseases that damage the collagen structure.
