  • The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has approved updated labeling for two topical eczema drugs, Elidel and Protopic Ointment, advising of the potential risk for skin cancer associated with their use.

  • UV exposure triggers melanin production in the skin cells, darkening the exposed areas. Melanin is the body's attempt to filter out the damaging UV rays. There is no such thing as a "healthy tan" in spite of what the tanning bed promoters claim.

    Filter out the UV rays, either chemically, with sunscreen, or with physical barriers like clothing or zinc oxide and the reaction does not occur. There are also a number of make-up brands that already incorporate sun block.


  • Health Canada is advising consumers to immediately discontinue the unauthorized product, Kwan Loong Medicated Oil, as it contains chloroform. Because chloroform can cause burns, irritation, and toxic side effects similar to those produced by inhalation, sale of chloroform for human use is prohibited according to the Food and Drug Regulations.
